How to Unlock Working for Tips in Borderlands 4
The Working for Tips side mission becomes available after you've completed the main story mission "Outbounders HQ" and reached level 12. You'll need to travel to The Howl, which is located north of Outbounders HQ.
This abandoned settlement area features a distinctive broken well at its center where you'll find the mission-starting ECHO Log.
Prerequisites:
- Complete "Outbounders HQ" main mission
- Reach at least level 12
- Have access to The Howl region

Starting the Mission
Approach the broken well at the center of The Howl's abandoned settlement. You'll find an ECHO Log resting on the edge of the well. Interact with it to begin the Working for Tips mission.
After picking up the ECHO Log, you'll receive a message from Rush, a character who will explain the mission details and your objectives.

Step 1: Locate the Food Rations
The sack of food rations near the well
After listening to Rush's message, look around the immediate area near the well for a large sack of food rations. It will be leaning against a broken wooden cart just a few meters from the well.
Interact with the food rations to pick them up. Your objective will update, showing three marked locations on your map where you need to deliver portions of the rations.
Step 2: Deliver Food Rations to the Three Farms
You can deliver the rations to the three farms in any order you prefer. Each location has its own challenges and enemies to deal with before you can complete the delivery.
Farm 1: Eastern Farm
The first farm is located directly east of the starting position. This delivery point is relatively undefended with only a few minor enemies to clear out.
Farm 2: Ardor's Bounty
Head north to reach Ardor's Bounty. This location is heavily guarded by Order forces that must be eliminated before you can deliver the rations.
Farm 3: Southern Farm
Continue south from Ardor's Bounty to find the final delivery point. This farm is infested with rippers that need to be cleared before delivery.
Pro Tip: Efficient Route
For the most efficient path, we recommend this delivery order:
- Eastern Farm (closest, minimal resistance)
- Southern Farm (medium distance, rippers)
- Ardor's Bounty (farthest, Order forces)
This route minimizes backtracking and allows you to tackle the easiest locations first while building up experience and loot for the more challenging Ardor's Bounty delivery.
Step 3: Completing the Mission
After delivering the final ration package at the third farm, you'll receive an ECHO message from Rush thanking you for your help and informing you that your tip has been deposited.
The mission will complete automatically, and you'll receive the rewards directly into your inventory. You can then continue exploring The Howl or fast travel to your next destination.
