Borderlands 4 Ripples and Rituals mission description

Starting Ripples and Rituals in Borderlands 4

You'll find this side mission out in the Tenterhooks area of Carcadia Burn, north of Queen's Cradle. Interact with the machine to pick up the mission while a boisterous voice named Steve invites you to participate in a battle only befitting of the Ripper Queen.

Pro Tip:

When you're ready, jump into the pit below, which is full of Corrosive liquid, so bear that in mind. If you have a shield and/or a Class Mod that helps protect you from that particular type of elemental damage, all the better.

First Challenge: Endure the Pain

Once in the pit, you'll need to "endure the pain" for around 20 seconds. If you have a good setup, then this shouldn't be too gnarly to withstand. A Ripper or two will appear to give you grief, so simply shoot them down while the timer runs out.

Once done, grapple back up to the console and retrieve the ECHO Log reward ("Greater than Oneself") for your efforts. From it, you'll get some backstory about Callis during the initial crash.

Lore Note:

The "Greater than Oneself" ECHO log provides crucial backstory about Callis and the initial crash that shaped the Carcadia Burn region.

Second Challenge: Athletic Trial

When it ends, Steve will say that if you want to hear more, you'll need to face their next "athletic" challenge. Check your map, and it's a short distance to the southwest, near the Wreck of the Last Great Hope.

Head there, and fight your way through some Rippers until you reach another console on the edge of a high cliff to start the next challenge. Press the button, and you'll have 40 seconds to ground slam three air pads in the area.

The second air pad is located further west from the first one, next to a large rusted machine.

Third Air Pad Location

The third and final air pad is conveniently right behind the ridge that leads to the challenge console ledge.

Once those air pads are taken care of, return to the challenge console and pick up the next ECHO Log called "Get Out". It gives more backstory into how and why Callis defected from the Timekeeper.

Final Confrontation: Defeat Steve

With that done, Steve now demands that you confront him in order to "rip or be ripped", in reference to your bolt. Check your map, and you'll find him a short distance to the northeast.

Make your way up into the Ripper camp, and deal with the Rippers already there to clear the field for Steve. Walk further into the camp, and he'll spawn from a Digger machine.

Combat Strategy:

Similar to other enemies of this type, Steve will be covered with a 360 shield that absorbs all damage from the outside. You'll need to get up close to deal damage, so be mindful of your surroundings while doing so. Use corrosive weapons for maximum effectiveness against his armor.

After killing Steve, pick up the ECHO Log he leaves behind as your last lore-based reward. Once it finishes playing, the mission will conclude, and you'll receive your base rewards.
