Complete Borderlands 4 His Vile Sanctum Walkthrough
1. Reach Vile Lictor's Fortress & Follow Amara
Follow Amara upstairs, then head over the bridge to the other side.
2. Kill Orbulus
On the other side, you will find Orbulus. This mini-boss has a powerful shield but is vulnerable to corrosive attacks. Aim for his exposed back when he charges his energy blast.
Pro Tip:
Use cover during his energy wave attacks and focus fire when he pauses to recharge. Corrosive weapons are particularly effective against his armor.
3-5. Return to Belton's Bore, Follow Defiant Calder, and Reach Power Substation
After killing Orbulus, fast travel back to Belton's Bore. Follow Calder until he stops, then continue to the power substation marked on your map.
6-9. Find Energy Spike & Eliminate Order Forces
Inside the substation, you'll face multiple waves of Order forces. Clear each area systematically, using the environment for cover.
Bruce will eventually break through a wall, creating a new path forward. Follow him into a room with a large purple energy spike.
Combat Strategy:
Prioritize eliminating snipers and engineers first, as they can quickly overwhelm you. Use elemental weapons matching enemy weaknesses for faster kills.
10-15. Destabilize Phase Device
You'll need to escort Bruce to three different limiters (A, B, and C) while protecting him from enemy attacks.
For each limiter:
- Escort Bruce to the limiter
- Protect him from enemies while he disables the shield
- Destroy the exposed limiter with your weapons
Important:
If Bruce stops moving, clear all nearby enemies. He won't proceed until the area is secure. Use area-of-effect weapons to quickly eliminate groups.
16-26. Breach Vile Lictor's Fortress
After destabilizing the phase device, huddle near Bruce to be teleported. You'll then need to navigate through a series of Phase rifts.
You can run past most enemies during this section - focus on reaching the rifts quickly. After three rifts, you'll emerge in an open area where you need to find Bruce's body.
Engineering Bay Puzzle
Find the engineering bay, insert Bruce's control core, then use the yellow orbs to destroy barriers.
For the barrier destruction puzzle:
- Pick up a Bruce Bomb (yellow orb)
- Throw it at the purple barrier
- Shoot the exposed core inside the barrier
- Repeat for all barriers
27-33. Kill Vile Lictor Boss Strategy
The climax of His Vile Sanctum is the challenging fight against Vile Lictor himself.
Phase 1: Destroy Eridian Relics
Before damaging Vile Lictor, you must destroy three Eridian relics in the arena:
- Find the projectile near the entrance
- Throw it at a relic's barrier
- Shoot the exposed relic
- Repeat for all three relics
Phase 2: Kill Vile Twins
After destroying the relics, the Vile Twins will spawn. Focus on one at a time and use movement to avoid their coordinated attacks.
Phase 3: Vile Lictor Final Battle
After the twins, take the elevator to face Vile Lictor directly.
Boss Strategy:
- First Phase (Yellow Bar): Only damage him when his mouth is open
- Second Phase (Blue Bar): Damage anywhere, but mouth is still critical spot
- Use shock weapons for shields, corrosive for armor
- Keep moving to avoid his area attacks
- Use the pillars for cover during his energy blast attacks
Optional Objective: Check on Amara
Before using the jumpad to reach Vile Lictor, turn right to check on Amara for additional dialogue and backstory.
34-35. Take Vile Lictor's Bolt and Return to Calder
After defeating Vile Lictor, collect his bolt from the arena center, then fast travel back to Belton's Bore to speak with Calder and complete the mission.
